Author Profile
Mike Greenaway has spent 29 consecutive years at The Mercury newspaper in Durban covering Sharks and Springbok rugby for Independent Media. It is a career that has taken him to every corner of the rugby world.
Mike has witnessed Springbok triumphs and disasters in equal measure. He has seen sport in South Africa shake off racism and evolve into a proud representation of the Rainbow Nation.
Mike has covered the Springboks’ World Cup wins under Francois Pienaar and John Smit before Siya Kolisi did the double in 2019 and 2023 to make an imprint on South Africa that is unlikely to be repeated.
He has authored three rugby books: Captain in the Cauldron — The John Smit Story; Heart of the Terriers, the history of the Amamzimtoti Rugby Club; and The Fireside Springbok — The untold stories that make the Boks great.
